History of the Institution.

What’s the Histoty?
Christ the King–Maktau Special School was established in May 2013 as a special unit within Maktau Primary School. The school began with five learners and one teacher, Mr. Flavian Mwandigha, the founder of the institution. Later in the same year, an additional teacher was posted to support the growing needs of the learners.

In 2014, one of the local community members, (insert name of the land owner here), generously donated land for the construction of a dedicated special school. Construction commenced in 2017 under the leadership of Mr. Flavian Mwandigha, with support from family and friends of the founder and partner organizations, including World Vision, the National Fund for Persons with Disabilities (Kenya), the Kenya Scouts Association, and the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The school was officially registered in September 2023 and named Christ the King–Maktau Special School. It is a public (government) institution offering both day and boarding programmes for male and female learners with special needs.
The school primarily serves learners with cerebral palsy, (please add autism and any other disability that is seen among more students. This will help us with widening our reach to others) while also accommodating learners with other multiple disabilities. Currently, the school has a total enrollment of 43 learners and a dedicated team of 14 teachers. Twelve teachers are posted by the national government, one by the county government, and one is employed by the Board of Management (parents).
Founder & Head of School
Greetings and a warm welcome to Christ the King-Maktau Special School.
At the heart of our institution lies a profound belief: that diversity is not a challenge to be overcome, but a gift to be cherished. As the Principal, I am honored to lead a dedicated team of educators and caregivers who wake up every day with a single mission—to ensure that every learner, regardless of their physical or intellectual starting point, is given the tools to reach their highest aspirations.
